Public sector EDI and e-commerce initiatives

There is a growing awareness of the benefits of e-commerce in the public sector with the UK government now laying down targets for all departments to trade electronically and holding regular events such as the Government eProcurement seminars.

Recent initiatives have involved NHS purchasing via TecSOL, the National School Fruit Scheme and many other local government and education authority initiatives. Individual government departments have launched initiatives typically involving the exchange of XML messages with suppliers or payroll messages direct to the Inland Revenue.
