Freeway Commerce has become a leading supplier of EDI and e-commerce solutions to the UK publishing industry, working with some of the largest names in publishing to reduce their EDI costs, improve the quality of their support and to increase their flexibility. As Spectrum handles so many different communications methods (EDI, email, FTP, Internet), it offers far more flexibility than existing packages which ordinarily only handle EDI. In addition, different message standards such as TRADACOMS, EDIFACT, X12 and XML are all handled through a single user interface with the back office software; new trading partners are added without further integration costs being incurred. Freeway is also an actively involved member of BIC (Book Industry Communication www.bic.org.uk) and supplies solutions which conform with the BIC guidelines for Tradacoms and Edifact (EDITEUR) messages.

As part of its e4books initiative, BIC has announced an accreditation scheme for distributors and booksellers which can demonstrate their ability to meet the e-commerce requirements of e-Day (1 May 2008). The first winners of the accreditation award announced in September 2005 include three of Freeway's customers in the publishing sector; Littlehampton Books, Random House (Distribution) and Macmillan Distribution.
