The CBA (Combined Buying Association) made up of leading independent Builders and Plumbers Merchants, is launching an e-commerce initiative this autumn with its suppliers. Eighteen CBA members will be working with leading e-commerce software provider Freeway Commerce, they will be seeking to exchange electronic orders and invoices with suppliers using an On-line solution hosted by Freeway.
Suppliers will have the ability to work either on-line or off-line to integrate with their back office systems using XML or Tradacoms message types, and in return for a modest annual subscription exchange unlimited numbers of documents with the CBA Members.
Diane Barrett, chair of the IT steering group of the CBA commented: "the move to electronic trading will offer serious cost savings for CBA Members and our suppliers. By utilising the latest technology on offer from Freeway, we have been able to reduce the costs for ourselves and offer the maximum flexibility for suppliers".
The roll-out to suppliers will begin later this year and extend into next year as all Members and suppliers are connected.
Paul Kaye, Sales Director of Freeway Commerce said: "this is further evidence of the leading role played by Freeway as the supplier of choice for e-commerce solutions in this sector. Working with CBA, we will offer low-cost solutions opening up e-commerce as a reality for all of their suppliers, small or large."
