Leading retailer of designer brands improves efficiencies by moving to electronic trading with suppliers via the web.
House of Fraser, the leading retailer of designer brands has selected Freeway Commerce as a partner in its rollout programme to encourage more suppliers to electronically exchange purchase orders, advanced shipping notes and invoices. House of Fraser has used a traditional EDI solution with suppliers for many years, but started a new Internet-based electronic trading programme 12 months ago and is beginning to see benefits from efficiencies and reduced operating costs as a result.
House of Fraser selected Freeway Commerce to partner them in this programme, since the company offers a range of electronic trading solutions that meet the needs of companies of all sizes. As House of Fraser increases the rollout to its suppliers, it has deployed Freeway's On-line Trader service to offer an inexpensive web-based interface, particularly suited to hundreds of its smaller and less regular suppliers.
On-line Trader is hosted by Freeway and requires no additional EDI translation or communications software. Suppliers just need a web browser and Internet access, enabling them to sign onto the secure web site to download purchase orders and produce advanced shipping notes and invoices that are then returned to House of Fraser electronically. House of Fraser will integrate all messages with its back office systems resulting in efficiency gains in its supply chain operation.
According to Andrew Jayes, Supply Chain Developer at House of Fraser, "It is an important part of our strategy to move suppliers over to trading electronically. We chose to work with Freeway Commerce as they are experienced in all areas of electronic trading, particularly in retail. They also have a range of options that means we can support all of our suppliers as they move to electronic trading - even our smaller specialist partners that deal with relatively low volumes.
"The rollout programme is still in its infancy but we are already reaping the benefits of efficiencies with automatic reconciliation of invoices and reduced man hours."
Godfrey Adams, Joint Managing Director of Freeway Commerce said: "The electronic exchange of data enables companies to gain operational efficiencies, yet many organisations imagine that the investment required is a prohibitive cost to entry. Freeway Commerce has proven experience in developing and rolling out solutions that enable e-commerce integration with existing business systems. No matter what size the trading partner, they can still benefit."
