ANSI (ASC) X12

ANSI (American National Standards Institute) has been developing standards for the electronic exchange of business documents since 1979. The standard that was created is known more commonly today as ASC X12 and is maintained by the ASC (American Standards Committee www.x12.org).

The ASC X12 message standard is predominantly used in the USA and the rest of North America, and is likely to be standard used by many US companies involved in EDI. ASC X12 is being developed as a major standard in its own right alongside UN/EDIFACT and the ASC are now bringing out XML versions of the key message types.
